Biography: 
Basil Hatim • Theorist and practitioner in Text Linguistics, Translation/Interpreting, and TESOL. • Lectured extensively at universities throughout the world, and published no less than 50 papers in reputable journals. • Authored or co-authored several books including Discourse and the translator (with Ian Mason, for Longman), Translation: An Advanced Resource Book (with Jeremy Munday, for Routledge), Academic Writing Step by Step: A Research-based Approach (with Chris Candlin and Peter Crompton, for Equinox) and the single-authored Teaching & Researching Translation (Longman) and Arabic Rhetoric: The Pragmatics of Deviation from Linguistic Norms (Lincom). • After nearly 20 years as Professor of translation & Linguistics at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Dr Hatim has since 1999 been Professor of Translation & Interpreting at the American University of Sharjah, UAE.
